Designer of studio trico

Tomoko Furuya

Q1. What made you decide to establish your own brand?

When I started creative activity, I used to make mostly glass vessels with my own name. After I realized there is a limit of the material and  to express my worldview, I decided to learn metal engraving. To make it a whole fresh start, I established my own brand.

Q2. Please describe your production process.

First, I pick the motif that I think is unique and decide the design. I carefully think about the size and color too. I draw a draft on brass plate, and I cut it with a jig saw. I braze the catch on the back then I color the front with resin. A product is finished.

Q3. What made you interested in NY market?

This is my first time to exhibit my works overseas. I wanted to know how people would react to Japanese designs and what kind of people in a cool city like New York would like my works.

Q4. Which one is your favorite piece? And why?

Rythmic gymnastics and earial series. I think those pieces show my concept "when wearing it, it makes you smile".

Q5. Lastly, please share some comments to customers at the ARCADE JAPAN.
   最後に、the ARCADE JAPANのお客様に一言お願いします。

Nice to meet you, from studio trico. I create brooches and earrings that are funny, surreal, and familiar. I, as a Japanese, select what I have seen and poured them into my works. I hope you will enjoy them too.

初めまして studio trico です。ファニーでシュールで親しいものをモチーフに、ブローチやピアスを制作しています。日本人である私がこれまで見てきたものを選びデザインした作品ですが、皆さんにも楽しんでもらえたら嬉しいです。
