Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
Tsugaru-nuri has a history of about 300 years and is a beautiful and robust traditional craft that uses lacquer, a natural coating made from tree sap, to create elegant patterns. However, its sales have been declining due to the spread of inexpensive mass-produced products, etc. KABA was established with the hope of improving this situation, enhancing the skills of young craftspeople, and contributing to the succession and development of traditional crafts.

-To utilize the sensitivity of craftsmen, especially young craftsmen, who are involved in Tsugaru-nuri.

< Origin of the brand name >
In Japan, we use the word "baka" to mean extraordinary. Tsugaru-nuri is also known as "BAKA-nuri" because it is carefully made with a great deal of time and effort. The name "KABA" is derived from the word BAKA turned upside down.
津軽塗は約300年の歴史を持ち、樹液から作られる天然塗料である漆を使って優美な模様を作り出す、美しく堅牢な伝統工芸品です。 ですが安価な大量生産品の普及などにより、売り上げが落ち込み厳しい状況にあります。KABAは、そんな状況を改善し、若手職人のスキルアップや伝統工芸の継承・発展に貢献したいとの思いから設立されました。

< ブランド名の由来 >
日本では、並外れたという意味で「馬鹿（BAKA）」という言葉を使います。 津軽塗は、ものすごく手間と時間をかけて丁寧に作られることから「馬鹿塗り」という別名があります。そのBAKAを逆さにしてKABAと名付けました。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
In Tsugaru-nuri, a convex pattern is first applied with lacquer, then colored lacquer is applied and allowed to dry, and layers of lacquer are repeatedly applied. Once the pattern is hidden, it is scraped off with a file to reveal a beautiful layer of the convex pattern and the color that has been applied. For this product, Tsugaru-nuri is applied to cowhide and combined with metal.
津軽塗は、最初に漆で凸模様をつけてから、色の漆を塗って乾かすことを繰り返し、漆の層を塗り重ねます。一旦模様が隠れてしまいますが、それをヤスリで削り出すことで、凸模様と塗り重ねた色が美しい層となって現れる仕組みです。今回の商品は、牛革に津軽塗を施し、金属と組み合わせて制作しています。

Tsugaru-nuri is a sustainable product that can be used for a long time because it is a natural paint, and it can be expressed in a variety of ways (bright and gorgeous patterns, calm and austere patterns, pop and cute patterns, etc.) because it is derived from the fashionable sheath of a samurai's sword. We hope that people will enjoy Tsugaru-nuri, feeling the similarities with New York, a city of diversity and people who enjoy various fashions. We will use your feedback on our products as a reference for future product development and hope to do business with those who like our products.
