Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
It was the influence of COVID-19. When it became pandemic, I was anxious about working as a former yoga instructor with young children and was looking for a job I could do at home. Since I originally had a desire to be involved in manufacturing, I started making accessories little by little. In order to pursue more creativity, I took a class in my neighborhood to learn the basic techniques of metal engraving, and after that, I continued to create pieces on my own. When I had gained some skills, I launched "hideka kanamaru" in July 2022. Creating works of art is fun! This is the driving force that has brought me to this point.
The brand name is the creator's name. I did not want the brand name to have a deep meaning that would evoke an image of something, so I simply used a proper noun as the brand name, meaning "something made by hideka kanamaru.
コロナの影響です。コロナが流行り出した当初、幼い子供たちがいる中、元のヨガインストラクターとして働くことに不安を覚え、家でできる仕事を模索していました。元々ものづくりに携わりたいという気持ちがあったため、少しずつアクセサリーを作り始めました。よりオリジナリティを追求するため、彫金の基礎技術を近所のクラスで学び、その後は独学で作品を作り続けています。ある程度技術がついてきた頃、2022年7月にhideka kanamaruを立ち上げました。『作品作りが楽しい！』という気持ちが原動力となってここまで来ています。
ブランド名は、作り手の本名です。ブランド名に、何かをイメージしてしまうような深い意味を持たせたくなくて、『hideka kanamaruが作ったもの』という意味で、シンプルに固有名詞をブランド名としました。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
All the processes of design and production (other than casting and rubber mold making) are done by hand by myself. There are two main ways of making products.
1) Cutting silver plates and rods with a thread saw, shaping, filing, welding (brazing), filing, and polishing
2) Create a design prototype using wax for carving, cast it into silver, shape and form it using a thread saw and file, (or create a rubber mold, cast, file, and polish, depending on the item).
デザイン、制作（キャスト、ゴム型生成以外の工程）を全て1人で手作業で行っております。主に2通りの作り方があります。
1) 銀の板や棒などを糸鋸で切る、成形、ヤスリがけ、溶接（ロウ付け）、ヤスリがけ、研磨
2) 彫金用のワックス（ロウ）でデザイン原型を生成、シルバーへキャスト、糸鋸やヤスリなどを利用して形を整え成形、（ものによってはゴム型生成、キャスト、）ヤスリがけ、研磨
Q3. What Made You Interested In NY Market?
ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
I had originally experienced selling on business trips to New York when I was in charge of overseas sales at a previous apparel company. However, since I had only been running "hideka kanamaru" for less than a year, I never imagined that I would be able to expand overseas. Then, I received an offer from "the ARCADE JAPAN," and I was filled with a strong desire to "definitely try it! I was so excited. I wanted to see how my work would be received in New York, a city of diverse races, cutting-edge fashionable, unique, and creative people, and I wanted to give it a try.
元々前職アパレル企業での海外営業を担当していた頃、NY出張でのセリングも経験していました。しかし、hideka kanamaruを初めてまだ1年未満ということもあり、海外進出は想像していませんでした。そんな時、”the ARCADE JAPAN”Ojiri様よりお話を頂き、『絶対やってみたい！』という気持ちの高ぶりがありました。多種多様な人種、最先端のファッショナブルで個性的でクリエイティブな人々のいるNYという街で、私の作品がどのような反応を頂けるのかを知ってみたい、挑戦してみたいという気持ちです。
Q4.Which One Is Your Favorite Piece? And Why?
イチオシはどの商品ですか？又その理由は？
“Natural stone ring”
I handcraft a silver frame that perfectly matches the shape of each natural stone, attach the ring, and then "set" the stones as the climax of the piece. The "stone clamping" is done by tapping the edge of the silver frame from the outside with a hammer, little by little, taking great care not to break the stone. This is an engraving technique that does not use any glue, and the edge of the silver frame falls inward to hold the stone in a shape that envelops the stone. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, and I carefully finish it one by one, loving the moment when a simple stone is transformed into an ornament by my hands. The design of the ring itself is simple to highlight the beauty of the stone itself. You can wear it for a long time as if you were wearing "nature.
天然石リングです。天然石1つ1つの形にぴったり沿った銀枠を手作業で制作し、リングを取りつけ、クライマックスとして”石留め”を行っています。”石留め”とは、石を割ってしまわないよう細心の注意を払いながら、銀枠の縁を外側から少しづつタガネで叩いていきます。接着剤などを使用せず、銀枠の縁を内側に倒し石を包み込む形で石を留める、彫金技術です。ただの石が私の手によって装飾具になる瞬間を愛おしく思いながら１つ１つ丁寧に仕上げている一点ものの作品です。石自体の美しさを引き立てるために、リング自体のデザインはシンプルに。『自然』を身につける感覚で、永く愛用いただけます。

Nice to meet you. I am hideka kanamaru, and I make my products in Shonan, an area next to Tokyo near the sea. My theme is "simple but a little unique." It is simple and easy to use, and can be worn all year round! Yet, I recommend them to those who are looking for accessories that are a little different from the others and that is one of a kind. The material is simple silver925/950, so you can use it for a long time. One of my dreams is to hold a solo exhibition in New York someday. We look forward to working with you!
