Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
Sapporo's soft stone is a stone that can only be quarried in Sapporo, Hokkaido, and was used as a building material for stone buildings during the development of Hokkaido, supporting the growth and history of Sapporo. Even today, about 300 buildings built in the Meiji era still remain in Sapporo, and the stone is also used in new buildings. However, there is currently only one company quarrying the stone. Therefore, we launched the brand in the hope that we can continue to preserve and pass on the historic stones and propose new ways to use them.
The stone was formed when pyroclastic flows from an eruption 40,000 years ago cooled and hardened. Taking advantage of its easy processing characteristics, we create our brand's works with an intent to process the stone into something familiar to us.
The name "Liaison" is a combination of the artist's own name "Lia" and "Ezo" meaning Hokkaido, and also has the meaning of "to connect" in French, which expresses our wish that we can connect with many people from Hokkaido through our works.
北海道・札幌でしか採石されない石、そして北海道開拓の時に石造りの建物の建材として使われ、札幌の発展・歴史を支えてくれた札幌軟石。今でも明治時代に建てられた建物が札幌に300棟ほど残っていたり、新しい建物にも使われています。 ですが、採石している業者は現在1社。歴史ある石を今後も遺して伝えていきつつ、新しい 使い方の提案をできればとブランドを立ち上げました。
4万年前の噴火の火砕流が冷えて固まった石。加工がしやすい特徴を活かし、身近に感じるものへの加工を意識してブランドの作品を作っています。
Liaison (リエゾン)は、作家の「リエ」と北海道の「エゾ」が入っており、フランス語で 「つながる」というような意味から、北海道から作品を通して沢山の方と繋がれますように という願いが込められています。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
Quarried Sapporo's soft stone is processed at the factory to a thickness and size that is easy to produce for accessories and general goods. Then, each piece is further cut to the desired shape with an electric circular saw, router, or diamond file. After that, we wash off the dust from the processing and dry the pieces. Then, to prevent the powder from flying off, they are coated and dried again. The finished parts are combined with metal fittings, local wood, resin, leather, and other materials to create accessories.
採石された札幌軟石を、アクセサリーや雑貨にするために、製作しやすい厚さや大きさに工場で加工してもらいます。そこから更にそれぞれの作品にあった形に自ら電動丸鋸で切ったり、 ルーターやダイヤモンドやすりで削っていきます。 その後、加工の際に出た粉を洗い流し乾燥。そして粉が飛ばないようにコーティングしてまた 乾燥させます。 出来上がったパーツを金具や道産の木材・樹脂や革などと組み合わせてアクセサリーにしていきます。
Q3. What Made You Interested In NY Market?
ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
We wanted to make Sapporo soft stone known not only in Japan but also abroad. Among other things, how would our works be received in the city at the forefront of trends in fashion and art, and would they be accepted? We participated in this event with a desire to hear local reactions and opinions for the future production of our works and to let people overseas know about Sapporo soft stone.
札幌軟石を日本だけではなく、海外の方にも知ってもらいたいという気持ちがありました。 中でも流行や芸術などのトレンドの最先端の街でどのように受け止めてもらえるか、 また、受け入れてもらえる作品なのか、今後の作品づくりに反応やご意見も参考にさせていただきたいと思い、勉強させていただく気持ちと札幌軟石を知ってもらいたい気持ちで応募しました。
Q4.Which One Is Your Favorite Piece? And Why?

This accessory is a combination of Sapporo soft stone and Hokkaido wood, in other words, it is filled with the charm of Hokkaido. As an accent, a thread wrapped with Japanese paper is rolled around it. It is also a curious design that blends in with any outfit and goes well with Japanese clothing.
